DNS is this is Domain Name System, the domain name system. This is a system that links the domain name of the site, that is, its name, and the IP address - it is needed to “communicate” computers over the network. Thanks to the DNS server, you don't need to know the site's IP address to get to it.

We can say that DNS is the address book of the Internet.

The system consists of many servers at different levels: from your Internet provider to global machines, of which there are only a few in the world. In fact, DNS is a huge database of addresses, matches, which answers requests and “tells” the device how to get to a site with a particular domain.

An Internet-connected computer uses DNS whenever you go to a website, if you haven't been there yet. Without normal DNS operation, access to the network is impossible.

DNS server is a special server or set of computers that stores and caches records with information about the IP addresses of sites. It also stores data about resource records. Each address is tied to its specific domain.
